Hollyhock Nigra Seeds

Hollyhock Nigra (Alcea Rosea ’Nigra’) is the near-black heirloom Hollyhock flower first traced in European seed catalogues around 1629. The flower itself is a single-petaled, 3–4 inch across in a shade of black with wine-red undertone. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–9. Botanically a short-lived perennial, but in practice most gardeners run Alcea Rosea Nigra as a biennial: leafy rosette appear in first year and 5–8 ft bloom spike in year two.
