Grandpa Ott Morning Glory is a popular heirloom climbing vine native to Bavaria, Germany. The flowers are a deep violet-purple color with a bright magenta star and cream-yellow throat, and are shaped like trumpets. They bloom fresh every morning, thus the name. The vines grow 10-15 feet tall, or more in a good warm season. While technically an annual in most parts of North America, Ipomoea Purpurea is hardy in USDA Zones 9-10 as a perennial, and in Zones 5-8, it self-sows reliably, so you won’t need to replant it. Blooming occurs from early summer to first frost. Purple flowers seeds are suitable for garden borders, vertical accents, and decorative screens.
